Take the Next Step with Post-Carbon London

with POST-CARBON LONDON
Emerging global energy issues are beginning to have a local impact evidenced by fluctuating fuel prices and increased pollution. Most people are not aware that up to half of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel dependency are under direct or indirect control of communities and municipal governments.
How can we make a difference?
How can we influence change locally?
How can we introduce new possibilities to reduce energy use and poor air quality?
Post-Carbon London is exploring and working toward a future in which the local community is no longer dependent on fossil fuels. They have organized a series of workshops, interspersed with guest speaker presentations, to explain how long-term energy planning occurs on a municipal level and to gain public input on energy conservation strategies. Workshops will be hosted by local libraries and will serve to engage the public in discussing London's ecological footprint and how we individually or collectively in our neighbourhoods can influence our impact on the planet’s resources. Breakout sessions may discuss any number of topics including: enhancing local food supply, renewable energy sources, co-operative means of reducing demand requirements that use fossil fuels, commuter costs, home heating and cooling and/or demonstration sites.
Outcomes are hoped to create a grassroots response that avoids a prescription of actions that must be carried out from the start, but rather a focus on developing a consciousness and neighbourhood response for the issues that lie ahead with practical initiatives.
Come share your ideas on reducing London’s ecological footprint on the planet,
starting with your own neighbourhood.
