Friends of the Coves recruit Coves Captains

Project: Coves Cleanup

FOTC partners with Youth Opportunities Unlimited to recruit Coves Captains for Earth Day / Coves Clean-up 2009!

A snowy Monday afternoon brought about twenty young people into the Skills Centre at Youth Opportunities Unlimited in downtown London.  Several organizations including the Friends of the Coves were on display to provide information about healthy personal, community and recreational opportunities for youth.

Community Involvement Coordinator William Lyons was promoting two of our upcoming events.  The first will be an orientation and training session on Wednesday April 15 for people who are interested in being leaders or "Coves Captains".  On this day, volunteers will head over to Greenway Park to learn how to plant trees and shrubs and install bird nestboxes.  Then, on Coves Clean-up Day on Saturday April 18, these same people will be called upon to demonstrate to small groups of less-experienced volunteers how to plant trees and shrubs and to install more bird nestboxes.  A handful of eager youth signed up for the events and we are looking forward to their involvement.

FOTC staffer William Lyons mans the display at the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Skills Centre in downtown London on Monday April 6th, 2009.

FOTC staffer Will Lyons was on hand at the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Skills Centre to recruit volunteer Captains for our annual Coves Clean-up event.

Hopefully the snow will be long gone by the 15th, but these events will run rain or shine.

If you would like to volunteer at the Coves Clean-up event on Saturday April 18 please arrive at Greenway Park between 9:00 and 9:30 am to register.

If you would like to be a Coves Captain for Clean-up day, come to our orientation and training session at Greenway Park on Wednesday April 15 starting at 4:00pm sharp until 5:00pm.  There is no sign-up deadline but we would appreciate a call or an email to let us know you're coming.  Click here for contact information.
