Western Serves the Coves... and London!
Project: Euston Park Naturalization
Friends of the Coves Subwatershed would like to thank the Western Serves program and their team of volunteers that came out to work with us once again this fall.
The Western Serves program connects University of Western Ontario students, staff and faculty with local community organizations for a day of "service-learning". This program encourages civic responsibility and strong personal values in its participants while also providing much-needed volunteer service to organizations across the city.
This year volunteers from Western Serves came out to Euston Park to help with various stewardship tasks in the naturalization area established there in 2004. They mulched dozens of trees and shrubs, removed a truck load of yard waste that had been illegally dumped in the park and some dilapidated snow fencing. The volunteers were eager to work as well as to learn about the deeper issues facing the Coves environment.
Thank you to all of our volunteers!

This Tulip Tree is freshly mulched and ready to compete with surrounding grasses for light, water and nutrients.
