The protection of London's Significant Woodlands is being challenged once again
Last year the City of London and the London Woodland Coalition (comprised of various organizations concerned with London's forests, including Friends of the Coves Subwatershed) successfully defended ammendment 403 of the City of London's Official Plan at a hearing of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB). This ammendment, which was unanimously supported by City Council in Fall 2006, made it easier to preserve woodlands within London by changing the threshold necessary for them to be deemed "Significant". Last year that ammendment was being questioned by a number of London development corporations but was upheld by the OMB.
Now that OMB ruling supporting Official Plan Ammendment 403 (OPA 403) is being challenged by the same group of corporations and is up for judicial review at an upcoming hearing at the Court House. Sandy Levin, former London City Councillor, has hired a lawyer to defend OPA 403 with the support of the London Woodland Coalition.
What can you do to help???
1. Attend the hearing: Thursday, Nov. 26 at 10am at the Court House (80 Dundas St.).
2. Help defray costs of the lawyer hired by Sandy Levin by making a tax deductible donation to the McIlwraith Field Naturalists of London.
