Spring Lawn Care
Tips for a Naturally Healthy Lawn:
Keep off the lawn in the spring until the ground has dried and is firm to walk on. Rake up debris, dead grass, leaves, etc. once lawn is firm. Apply organic fertilizer to help grass revive. Optimally, lawns should be fed twice a year, spring and fall, with 0.5 to 0.75 kg of nitrogen per 100 m2 each time. Use an organic fertilizer containing dried blood, bone meal, manure, fish emulsion or seaweed.Apply grass seed. Apply thinly over entire lawn surface. Apply topsoil or well-rotted compost to bare patches and seed those areas more densely. Consult with staff at your grass seed supply store to ensure you get the right type of seed for your soil, light and moisture conditions. Clean and sharpen mower blades. This should be done annually so the mower cuts cleanly and does less damage to grass.
