Even in the middle of downtown London, the Coves Environmentally Significant Area supports high levels of biodiversity. Local birders will be happy to know a 2011 survey listed 59 different species of breeding birds in the Coves, 30 of which are significant at the provincial, regional, or local level. If you are interested in learning more about the birds of the Coves, check out the recordings of bird calls found below.
All these recordings were made in the Coves by Julian Fisher, who moved to London to pursue a PhD and ended up in an apartment 10 minutes from the Coves. Over three years, Julian visited the Coves many times to bird and took several recordings of local bird calls, ultimately becoming a lifetime member of Friends of the Coves before moving to BC. Thanks to Julian, budding birders have a great opportunity to familiarize themselves with some of the avian inhabitants of the Coves and maybe even make their own recordings one day!
